About eduardo

Eduardo Rodriguez, born in Poza Rica, Veracruz, Mexico, in November 1987, is an artist whose music embodies freedom of expression and human connection. His musical journey began at the age of 13 when he started taking music lessons. Afterward, he moved to Puebla to commence his studies in classical guitar under the tutelage of the Cuban guitarist, Manuel Espinas. During this period, he was introduced to the works of Heitor Villa-Lobos and Leo Brower, both of whom would profoundly influence his own compositions.

Following his college years, Eduardo, more commonly known as Lalo, delved into the intricacies of jazz and improvisation under the guidance of Agustin Bernal in Mexico City. His thirst for musical exploration led him to New York City, his current residence. In 2018 and 2021, Lalo organized tours with his band, conducting artistic residencies in Mexico City and subsequently performing at various music venues in New York City, collaborating with artists from diverse cultural backgrounds.

In 2021, Lalo embarked on a musical voyage of a different kind, undertaking private lessons in counterpoint and orchestration with the esteemed Franco-German composer Alexander Liebermann. Additionally, he became a mentee of the Master Drummer Michael Carvin, whose collaborations with luminaries like Jackie McLean, Alice Coltrane, Freddie Hubbard and Pharoa Sanders have profoundly influenced Lalo's artistic vision.

Lalo draws inspiration from a myriad of sources, including nature, paintings, historical events, and personal experiences, which serve as the creative impetus behind his compositions. As he puts it, "We have to keep searching, and to keep the expression of that search. That's what music is for me."
